Flynn in January 2004

Flynn has come down from Scotland to join our 'gang'. Bred by Helen and Tom Ferguson in the Borders of Scotland, he is a welcome addition to our kennel. We hope to be showing him off next year, along with the others.

He has just produced his first litter of eight to my Gaytonwood Genevieve (Georgie). Pictures can be seen by clicking on this link.

His show career started when he was awarded a third in Minor Puppy dog by Mr. Ron Hibbs at WELKS,  his first Championship Show, which qualified him for Crufts and was awarded his first, first place the week after at Hitchin and District Canine Society courtesy of Mrs. J Donahue. This was followed by a fifth place at SKC (Sue Ross) and another first at Boston and DCS Open Show (Frank Goulding). The icing on the cake was a first place in Minor Puppy at Three Counties Championship Show, Judge Wendy Andrews (Catcombe). Since then he has been awarded a third at SWKA (Ferelith Summerfield), a first and second at BDCGRC Open Show (Angie Cooper), third at East of England (Mervyn Philpott), third at the Golden Retriever Club Championship Show (Lyn Hennessey), 2 x firsts and Best Puppy at Dukeries Open Show (Una Spratt) and a VHC at Leeds (John Senior). In August he lost his coat be still went on to be placed at National Gundog (Rachel Rains), United Retriever Club (Catherine Zingg), Welsh Kennel Club (Susan Goodwin), Darlington (John Hicks) and ECGRC (Anne Falconer).  He ended the year by being placed third in a strong Junior Class at LKA (Beryl Liggins).  He has won Best of Breed awards and is very consistent at both Open and Championship level. Many thanks to all those who have thought highly of him.

He started off 2003 well by gaining a VHC in Junior at SGRC (judge Heather Morris) He was unplaced at Crufts but had a brief moment of fame on TV by appearing on the Crufts gundog programme in 2003. It was so brief I nearly missed it, but he was recognised by some friends and us.

He gained his Show Gundog Working Certificate in December 2004, on the wettest day in Suffolk ever!!!

In April 2005 he was awarded 1st in Limit Dog and the Reserve Challenge Certificate by John Tiranti at Ulster GRC Championship Show. We were overjoyed and would like to thank all those who sent congratulations and cards and special thanks to Mr Tiranti for making our day so wonderful.

He also started to compete in Gundog working tests where he shows more enthusiasm than precision but that will come in time. He really enjoys this and had a successful first season picking up where I'm sure he learnt from the others and will become a valued member of the team.

In May 2005 he was successful in passing the first part of the Kennel Club Gundog Working Certificate and was due to complete the second part during the 2005/2006 shooting season but due to his tragic death we never got to that point. In June he and I represented the Midland Golden Retriever Club in the Interclub Working Test at Chatsworth which was a day which we both really enjoyed..............

Luckily I have a daughter of his, Lanssonne Holly Berry by Gaytonwood, and so he lives on through her.
