Briar won a first at Crufts and Alfie, a Jeff son won the Best Overall Gamekeepers Dog Our DogsOur small kennel in Northamptonshire aims to own and breed Golden and Labrador Retrievers with lovely temperaments. As well as being well loved pets, they also compete in shows, working tests, field trials and obedience. They spend the winter months picking up on local shoots and I train them throughout the year, competing in Working Tests through the summer. I have always believed in the 'fit for function' ideals that the Kennel Club is promoting and the dogs I own and breed have been chosen to fulfil this. We breed the occasional litter and our boys are at stud to approved bitches. Go to the links on the side of the page to access the dogs own pages and to find out more information about the Gaytonwood kennel. We are Kennel Club Accredited Breeders, with all three breeder accolades and uphold the aims of the scheme, to breed puppies from parents who have been tested for the hereditary problems and to give our new puppy owners support and advice. I also microchip all our dogs and am qualified to offer this as a service to others, either for their individual dogs or for litters of puppies. TrainingI am also a member of the Kennel Club Accredited Instructor Scheme and have attended a British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers course and abtained a Certificate in Instructional Techniques. I also run training classes and offer one-to-one training, as well as running a number of dog related events, such as an annual Eye Testing Session with a BVA eye specialist, throughout the year. See www.gundog-trainers.co.uk for further information.
ServicesI am a qualified to microchip dogs and cats and will come and microchip individual dogs and litters of puppies at your home. EditorialsI, along with my colleague Angie Cooper write the weekly 'Breed Notes' column for Our Dogs newspaper, reporting on both the show and trialling events and we have both written articles for this paper and other publications, along with a chapter in the 'Best of Breed' series on the Golden Retriever which was edited by Maurice Shortman. We have previously covered the Gundog day for Our Dogs and will hopefully bring you all the gossip again this year!!! We have reported from the IGL Retriever Championships for the last few years after making this an annual 'holiday' after attending it at Ampton in 2006 and watching FT CH Marcus Maybe at Wadesmill winning it.
